Right now, I'm in a country where any electronic gear is a bit overpriced. Without considering what might be available in my particular (undisclosed) location:

What is the cheapest eBook reading solution available?

I found a site with LOT of free eBooks (ones which don't look horrible) and I would like to take advantage of the English titles which are hard to find here.

I considered my phone, but have not found an ebook reader, plus the screen would be a pain to read anything long on.

The Sony book reader, and the iLiad eReader are both VERY expensive, even in the States.

What about a palm? An old model palm or other pda? One that is easy on the eyes?

All suggestions are welcomed.

Thanks for answering :)

Buy any Pocket PC / Windows Mobile 2002, 2003 2003SE or 2005 (WM5) device (they are pretty cheap on eBay). You can install Microsoft Pocket Reader for free - and there's THOUSANDS of free ebooks available online. It's a GREAT reader program - you'll never know how you did without it. Microsoft also supply a free plug-in for Microsoft Word that allows you to create ebooks from Word documents. Listed below also

Well when you can get open source softwares to create PDF file then why to invest in getting adobe ebook maker. Sometime you don't get much definition in the pdf when you use open source soft'es...but then difference is negligible. People want to just read :). Why ebook reader for website?? Just give download option. FTP will be nice but don't forget to make it secure as you're selling pdf's :)

I'd recommend a second-hand PDA for 100-170 USD.

Also check out the usenet newsgroup "alt.binaries.e-book" which might be available on your ISP's news server (NNTP).
