Question:
Palm Tungsten T3 not synching on XP desktop; crashes Vista notebook?

Got a Palm Tungsten T3 on my XP pc. Been okay for a couple of years, except for a bad USB socket that had me pulling out and plugging in again. It's been acting strange lately, culminating past two days when it absolutely refuses to sync. The PDA screen says trying to connect but no reaction in PC. Moved data and cradle to my notebook Vista PC and twice, it 'crashes' my notebook, 'dumping physical memory' or something after which I have to reboot. So frustrating, after losing years of all my calendar entries last month with Palm not saying anything about it, here's another. Makes me wanna get a Windows mobile. Anybody got a tip? On the pda not on migrating to WinMobile.

I get that every now and then with my T|T3. I've had it since 2004. Here's the stuff that I do to get the hotsync to go through........

-either push down lightly, or to either side while you're getting the "trying to connect" screen. It may be the connectors don't fit snugly for some reason.

a) sometimes, as soon as successful HS is commenced, u can let go and let it do its run

b) else, u'll need to hold it there, which is kinda annoying, but it does guarantee a successful HS session when u just need to leave soon

c) a permanent fix would be to use tweezers/pliers to adjust the connectors on the T|T3 and cradle to better connect, but best you research this for more info so that u don't end up doing more harm than good

-soft reset your T3

-make sure there aren't any "overlay" program sthat may intefere with HSing. I guess look for utility programs such as alarms, or launchers that may be doing something in the background that wouldn't permit syncing while it's running

-reboot your PC. This is often the last thing I need to do. Afterwards, HS's with no probem for good duration

-the last resort is to hard reset your T|T3. If u haven't already, consider getting programs that backup your data to SD card (like TealBackup, Backup Man, or Backup Buddy VFS) to supplement HS backups to your PC.

from that link...

""Palm Desktop 6.2 Beta is not recommended for other devices. However, you can install a previous version of Palm Desktop, which will sync Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Memos, but has limited functionality in other areas.""

""Note: Palm Install Tool and Palm Quick Install, the desktop applications that let you transfer applications and databases (.prc and .pdb) to your Palm device, are currently not compatible with Windows Vista. Please check back for updates. ""

looks like older Palm models that use the older PD software don't play nice with Win Vista

Windows Mobile has it's own quirks, but I only know of a few of them, and that's for another topic really. Let us how your resolved this.

Since Vista Windows came out, many programs and products may not be compatible or required a update software either from Palm or Microsoft. I like Palm PDA easy to use and does not crash very much. Pocket PC is okay but does not last for me, due to unit lack of settings and get crashed. May consider getting a seperated USB port or device and back up SD card to save all your files.

The laptop working XP is under pressure by way of a on the spot router. The computing device working Vista uncomplicated makes use of a on the spot connection. the help i've got study seems to persist with on condition that the two computers are utilising the comparable version of living house windows. i could be lacking the glaring step here so could somebody please factor it out for me? BTW, the computing device picked up the router and set up a community for information superhighway get entry to right now. The laptop had to be reset earlier it picked each and every thing up. The router is a dlink. ISP is highway runner with time warner if that makes a distinction. thank you a lot for any advice.
