Check this out ... it works ... Just wait at a verizon store or a local store that sells cell phones ... most people, when they buy a new phone will give up their phone for FREE!!! ... Some may not be compatible with new rules and regulations, but I got a couple of new phones that way. OR ... call your local police department and report it stolen. The will give you a report number that you give to verizon. They will send you a new phone ( if you have insurance on your phone ).

ebay.com has a great selection of cell phones. Buying a new phone from verizon without signing up a new contract is ridiculously expensive.
YOu can also ask friends who have recently upgraded their phones if you can borrow theirs til your contract expires so you can get a new phone.
Did you have insurance on your phone?
Good luck!
