I am looking into getting a tablet (either an iPad Air or a Kindle Fire HD), but I wanted to know if there was a way for me to transfer movies, tv shows, and songs (downloaded from outside sources that aren't amazon or iTunes, etc) onto the tablet? Is it easy to do?

For the Kindle FireHD, it is as simple as plugging the tablet into your computer, and dragging the files over (for macs you need android utility). You can put them anywhere and the devices video playing and music playing programs will find them.

For Ipad, you can move music and movies onto itunes buy copying and pasting it into the itunes music folders, and then move them onto your ipad. However, this doesn't always work.

Personally, I would go forthe Kindle Fire HD, as it would be easier to move your content. But if you are willing to change your mind, there are better tablets then the Kindle Fire HD for watching movies and stuff like that. The Nexus 10, despite it's age, still has the 2nd highest pixel desnity of any tablet, even higher then retina display. The new Samsung 10.1 inch tablet is the only brighter and more vibrant screen I have found in the android market, and is also considerable more powerful for mobile gaming.

You received 3 responses to your question.... Now I will give you the best one.

Apple: It can be done.. but it's very difficult. Apple is very controlling as to what you put on their devices. They force you to use iTunes to sync. One problem I've encountered is... they also restrict the kinds of content you can install... For example... if you have a movie in .mkv format that you want to install onto an iPad... iTunes will not recognize the file and won't install it on your device...

Kindle: You can install any type of file onto Kindles. The fastest and easiest way is to simply connect your USB cable to your Computer... click on start browse Computer... and you will see the Kindle drive... just open it up and copy your music files to the folder that says Music... or movies files to the Movie/Video folder... the same thing with photos... it's that easy... You can NOT do the same thing with Apple's devices...meaning you can't just drag and drop files like that.

Another thing... There are other ways to copy files onto devices... You could also try using an online storage service. The biggest and best is the one called Dropbox. You could install Dropbox on all your devices and wireless transfer files between them all... your phone... tablet... and your computer... or have it set up to automatically save digital photos to a specific folder on your computer... That's how I have mine set up... every time I take a photo or video with my camera... it's set to a folder on my desktop... so I never have to copy or transfer anything myself.. it's already there... You should open up a dropbox account now to check it out. Here is the link for Dropbox: https://db.tt/RiGmZgBz

Tablets that will accept a micro-SD card work well for that. I download from my main PC computer to the micro-SD card, and then put the card in the tablet. Sometimes I download youtube videos and watch them on my tablet.

Also, I can use my tablet to run my Dish system in the living room. It's called "Dish Anywhere", and you can do everything with the tablet that you can do with the television in the living room. It works anywhere I can get a WiFi hot spot.

In addition to that, I use FireFox with an addon called "Video Downloader" and down load all sorts of things to see on my tablet.

While it's true that some t.v. programs are better at portraying and informing than catalogs, literature in themselves are an escape. I would have a publication over t in my opinion.v.

Should work.

I just got an Android tablet and saving files to the SD is easy enough, but the built-in video player apps will only play certain formats. So some videos I would need to transcode before I can play them. Or else get another player app that is more flexible.
