I just got a Kindle (6). I think it's a great ebook reader EXCEPT there is NO BACKLIGHT!

I was thinking I could read this in bed without having a lamp on, or read it on the couch while my family is watching movies in the dark.

The regular screen is fine in bright sunlight but in a dim room it is too dark.

I called Amazon and they said they don't backlight ANY of their kindles due to eyestrain, but I'm straining my eyes to read this dark screen!

I know there are a lot of ebook readers on the market now, I've spent the last hour going to their website but I can't find SPECIFIC info on whether they are backlit or not.

So basically I am looking for a new ebook reader with backlighting, a plus would be if it has text to speech the way the kindle has.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

Kindle does not do it only for eye strain but because it needs more battery. You could try a torch! XD Personally I read in bed in the evening. At first, it was too bright, so I had to reduce seriously the back light, but since I did, it is perfect. I love my Binatone ebook reader so much, that I have drastically reduced my Internet sessions! The resolution is good too: 800x460.

I have finished reading my ebook, and started studying languages with it now. It is very good. I get plenty formats too: Epub, Txt, Html, Chm, Rtf, F2b, Tcr, Paml Doc, Open E-book, Open Reader, Pdf and is DRM compatible. Although BW Pdf is not. Binatone also provided me with the link of a freeware ebook converter called http://calibre-ebook.com/ to convert these formats which are not yet compatible with Binatone. I thought it was a nice touch.

It can also load music and video files: Video formats are Mp4 and H.264. It can

When you want a back-lit e-reader, you need to look for a "color e-reader" or and LCD screen. They all mean the same thing. You are more likely to see either color or LCD in the product description as the term "back-lit" is usually only heard in reference to eyestrain.

I haven't heard of any other e-readers having a text-to-speech feature. Just Kindle.

This test consists of eight eBook Reader. The test contains links to the manufacturer, at least for Sony to announce that the backlight is not included, I do not know each other.

Personally, I absolutely love my Kindle. I have heard that the Barnes & Noble Nook is a very good ereader. You may want to check that out.
